Guernsey hosts TV's Treasure Hunt 📺


The lighthouse keepers on Les Hanois were cut off for more than a fortnight, right now in 1961, when bad weather left them isolated. Eventually the Royal Navy had to be drafted in to fly across emergency supplies of fuel and food.

Channel 4 gameshow Treasure Hunt came to Guernsey and Herm this week in 1984. We won't say exactly where Anneka Rice visited, as that would be a spoiler, which would be a shame as you can watch the full episode online.
ÂA Guernsey-built prototype plane crashed on Vazon this week in 1935. The remains of Wee Mite, as it was then known, were stored until the occupation, when they were shipped to Germany to stop anyone using them to escape.
ÂAfter ten years' operation, the Guernsey Steam Tramway, which served St Peter Port and St Sampson, was taken out of service this week in 1889. By December the same year it has been relaunched as the Guernsey Railway Company.
ÂGuernseyman Adrian Breton won gold at the Commonwealth Games this week in 1990. The games were held in Auckland, New Zealand, and saw Guernsey compete in athletics, road cycle racing, lawn bowls, swimming and shooting.

Sark was awarded Dark-Sky status this week in 2011, making it the first Dark-Sky community in Europe and only the third Dark-Sky park in the world. It's now a magnet for star watchers who can look to the heavens with the naked eye.
ÂThe 3000-ton, Liberian-registered Radiant Med sank off the coast of Guernsey this week in 1984. Only nine of the 24 crew survived.
